Huntsman deal
21 Apr 2004
Foster Wheeler has entered a three-year relationship with Huntsman Petrochemicals to provide front-end engineering, project management, detailed engineering services and plant technical support for all of Huntsman's facilities in Wilton and Teesside.
The deal also includes options to provide procurement and construction management services. The value of the deal has not been disclosed.
Huntsman operates olefins, aromatics and polyurethanes plants in the North East, while Foster Wheeler maintains an operations centre in nearby Middlesbrough. 'This type of "plant gate" alliance, where we deliver services locally, either at or very close to our clients' assets, with the full and flexible support of specialists from our Reading operations, is a very important business for us,' comments chairman and chief executive Ian Bill.
Working in close proximity to the client is a mutually beneficial arrangement, Bill says, as it 'helps us develop a much deeper understanding of their objectives, and engenders an environment in which we can deliver continuous improvement, including cost reduction, schedule reduction and further step-changes in safety performance.'
Similar agreements are already in place with other petrochemical operators on Teesside, he adds.
