POM plant comes to China

DuPont China and Asahi Kasei Corporation are to establish a joint venture for the production and marketing of acetal (also known as POM) copolymer resins in China.
The joint venture will have an initial production capacity of 20,000 tons per year, and successive increases up to 60,000 tons per year are planned.
The facility will be located in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province in China with start-up scheduled for spring 2004.
The current market for POM in China is estimated at over 100,000 tons per year and it is anticipated that rapid market growth will continue.
The 50:50 partnership between DuPont and Asahi Kasei will handle product marketing and distribution within China.
However, the two partners will continue to use their own established networks to market products from this joint venture outside China.
