Exchanger does its 2-phase duty

Alfa Laval Thermal has developed a new brazed plate heat exchanger optimised for two-phase operations in air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
The unit, the AlfaChill 120 EQ, is the first of a range of brazed exchangers developed to improve refrigerant performance. The Alfa-Chill's efficiency is said to depend on a patented internal distribution system called the Equalancer.
Capable of increasing performance by an average of 6 per cent, the Equalancer is fully integrated into the plate design and, by distributing flow between the channels, maximises the cooling effect with evaporation temperatures claimed to be 1.5 degreesC higher than in conventional systems. In condensing mode, a 2 degreesC reduction can be achieved.
