Level measurement flows down the wire
15 Jan 2000
Combining time domain reflection technology with its experience in radar level measurement, Krohne has developed the Reflex-Radar BM100 level detector. Suitable for level and interface measurements on liquids and granular products, the BM100 offers level accuracy of from +/-3mm and an interface accuracy of +/-10mm or better (with a known dielectric constant). On most powders and granular products accuracies of +/-100mm are achievable.
For measurements from 0 to 6m the sensors, which hang down inside the tank or silo, are either a pair of rigid rods or a single coaxial cable. For ranges to 60m, a pair of flexible stainless steel cables is used as the conductor for low power electrical waves, which are pulsed down the tank at a frequency of 1MHz.
These pulse waves, which are partially reflected when they encounter a change in the dielectric value of the products they pass through, are impervious to clogging or coating of the sensors and are unaffected by temperature, pressure or density of the product.
