Graphalloy lets pumps run dry
15 Jan 2000
FTL Seals Technology has announced the availability of Graphalloy bearing materials; carbon graphite bearings impregnated with metal. It can be employed in case rings and in situations where they offer a margin of safety that lets the pump run dry.
'Normal metallic materials employed in pump construction operate well when lubricated by the medium, but they frequently fail if the pump runs without pumpage,' says sales director Tony Snowdon.
Media in which Graphalloy is specified are light hydrocarbons, hot water; pumpages where bronze bearings are not permissible.
A conventional solution to eliminating metal-to-metal contacts in fluids handling is to increase internal clearances, which can waste energy and increase vibration. Graphalloy overcomes the need to have these unwanted side effects.
