Stirling Water consortium has been appointed by East of Scotland Water Authority as the preferred bidder for the £20m Esk Valley purification project to meet EU water quality levels. The Esk Valley serves
58 000 people east of Edinburgh. Other bids came from Caledonian Environmental Services, Catchment and East of Scotland Environmental Services.
* Metering pumps head East
Orders in excess of £100 000 have been won by Bran and Luebbe for diaphragm triplex pumps and precision metering pumps. Snamprogetti, Bechtel and Amec Babcock have awarded the contracts for projects in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Kazikstan.
* Power station overhaul completed
Crane Engineering Service, specialists in maintenance and refurbishment of fluids handling equipment, has completed inspection and overhaul of safety, control and isolation valves at Barking Power Station in Essex. The contract, worth £40 000 was awarded by Thames Power Services.
* Italian concern orders butterflies
Batley Valve, a subdivision of the Weir Group, has won a contract, worth over £600 000, to supply bespoke butterfly valves for the Al Hiidd desalination plant in Bahrain. The order was placed by Fisia Italimpianti. The valves range in size from 350mm to 1200mm and will have anti-cavitation trim.
* Yorkshire Water upgrades plant
UK-based USF with its American division, has designed a secondary treatment facility for Yorkshire Water's Knostrop sewage treatment plant. The system is to be commissioned in May 1999 and is worth £700 000.
* Software solution completed for Elf
J.D. Edwards, supplier of enterprise business application solutions, has announced completion of a £600 000 contract with Elf Oil UK to implement its WorldSoftware suite of applications. The project Integra has been implemented at Elf's head office in London.
* Eastman revamps its plants
Thermo Labsystems has been awarded a contract to provide information systems for sixteen Eastman Chemical Company manufacturing sites. A pilot project is to be completed by early 1999.
