Double and triple heads boost peristaltic pumping
15 Jan 2000
Peristaltic pump manufacturer Watson-Marlow Bredel has launched a range of Duplex and Trio pumps to complement its range of close-coupled pumps.
The Duplex version has two pumpheads driven from a single motor/gearbox. They offer increased flow capacity and, if used with a combined discharge, virtually eliminate the discharge pulsations characteristic of peristaltics.
Available in both the 500 and 600 close-coupled series, the Duplex is said to be ideal for applications needing twin-channel balanced flow.
The Trio variant is a robust IP55 unit comprising an integral inverter, motor/gearbox and pumphead. Using a sensorless vector control, the inverter provides a 10:1 speed control ratio which, with the broad range of tube sizes available, points to great flexibility of operation.
Control of the Trio is possible in a variety of ways: from its built-in potentiometer; remotely via the high resolution analogue input; from a handheld programmer for including variables such as ramp up/ramp down times; pre-set digital speeds; and full digital control via RS485 or Profibus.
* In conjunction with specialist material manufacturer WL Gore, Watson-Marlow Bredel has also just launched a new type of hygienic tubing. Designed for pharmaceuticals and biotechnology industry applications, the Sta-Pure tubing can operate at pressures up to 4bar. It is a PTFE/silicone composite that is said to offer twice the operating life of traditional thermoplastic tubing.
