'Intersect' set to model processes and sensors
15 Jan 2000
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has chosen Sira and National Physical Laboratory to set up one of the first four Faraday partnerships. The £2m Intersect programme will investigate intelligent sensors and control technology.
The EPSRC is awarding the project £1m, NPL is investing £560,000 and the rest will come from industrial partners including Unilever, SmithKline Beecham, ICI and British Steel as well as 100 or so smaller companies.
The aims of the Faraday initiative are to develop university-based research, postgraduate training and other activities to support industry, notably SMEs.
Intersect will focus on sensors, modelling for analysis and non-invasive control and monitoring of manufacturing processes.
