ICI makes safety case
15 Jan 2000
The ICI company Eutech Engineering Solutions has been awarded a grant of £285,000 from the DTI towards the development of a certification scheme for IT safety-critical systems.
The grant, awarded under the Sector Challenge Initiative, is to go towards a £625,000 project to develop a conformity assessment scheme for safety related IT systems products, founded on the internationally accepted safety standard IEC 1508.
Project initiator, Eutech's Stuart Nunns says: 'We identified the need for a UK-based independent assessment scheme which would allow UK suppliers of safety related computer systems to meet IEC 1508. This will provide the UK with an internationally recognisable scheme and improve the competitiveness of the industry.'
