Flowmeter first for phosphorus
15 Jan 2000
United Phosphorous' new herbicide manufacturing plant at Sandbach, Cheshire, is one of the first UK installations to be fitted with Siemens' F ultrasonic flow-meters. Two Sirans F units are monitoring flow as part of a batch process that feeds raw materials into the reactors. Three more are used on a distillation process.
The ultrasonic meters were chosen specifically because of the process design. The material flowing through the pipes could possibly freeze, so pipe bores needed to be as large as possible. Conventional mass flow meters typically have small bores which would have made it difficult to avoid blockages.
