Fluid for high temperature
15 Jan 2000
A new low-pressure heat transfer fluid provides unmatched thermal stability and performance at elevated temperatures, according to Dow. The Dowtherm RP is said to provide thermal stability for high-temperature liquid-phase systems and will not be plagued by the thermal degradation experienced by current low-pressure fluids in high-temperature applications. The RP fluid has low viscosity at low temperatures, minimising start-up and shutdown problems.
The RP fluid is a diaryl alkyl for operation up to 350 degrees C. Typical applications would be fibre manufacturing and feed plants such as polyethylene terephthalate plants (PET) and purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plants.
