Fossil fuel levy to be halved
15 Jan 2000
A slowing-down in the commissioning of renewable energy generation projects has led the government to reduce the fossil fuel levy by more than half, from 0.7 per cent of electricity costs to 0.3 per cent. The reduction will take effect from 1 October.
The levy is paid by electricity suppliers to subsidise renewable electricity generation, from solar, wind and landfill gas sources, by the public electricity suppliers.
