Trouble at Tioxide

ICI's environmental woes continue; a plant operated by its Tioxide subsidiary at Greatham, near Hartlepool, has been shut down for five weeks after a leak of titanium tetrachloride from a heat exchanger. The Environment Agency served a prohibition notice on the plant and ordered the company to repair the broken equipment, review its maintenance and inspection programme; and install new instrumentation to detect heat exchanger failures.
