15 Jan 2000
AEA Technology is to lead a project to asess the safety of Russian nuclear reactors. A consortium including Sweden's ABB and Spain's Technatom is to study the reactor at Smolensk, south of Moscow, to assess the condition of the 1600 fuel channels which run through the reactor's graphite core. The companies will also collaborate on research into what happens when single tubes rupture.
