Herculean pulp takeover

Hercules, world-wide manufacturer of speciality chemicals, has acquired all BetzDearborn shares for $72per share in cash, or a total of $2.4billion. Hercules will also assume $700million in BetzDearborn debt.
The takeover will create a paper chemical business with one of the world's most complete range of products and services for the pulp and paper industry.
The new enterprise with pro forma 1997 revenues of $3.5billion will be based in Delaware, USA. The water treatment businesses will remain under the BetzDearborn name.
