DTI champions researchers
15 Jan 2000
The Department of Trade and Industry is establishing a body to improve the management of career development of university contract research staff.
The Concordat Implementation Group is aiming to advise on the progress in implementing the research careers Concordat agreed last year and to identify best practice in university researcher career development.
The group will be led by Prof Sir Gareth Roberts, the current chairman of the Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals of UK Universities and Colleges.
John Battle, the Minister for Science, Energy and Industry welcomed the move. 'It is an important step towards developing clearer career paths for contract researchers. It should show that research jobs can become stepping stones to a variety of worthwhile destinations.
