New LIMS
15 Jan 2000
The increasing demand for LIMS systems has led laboratory information specialist LabSystems to develop its new LIMS, targeted on the laboratory rather than the enterprise as a whole. Dubbed Nautilus and launched in the appropriately nautical surroundings of Cadiz (the launch-point for Christopher Columbus's voyages), the system is a little brother to LabSystems' enterprise-level LIMS, SampleManager.
'SampleManager is our flagship product and will remain so,' commented LabSystems md Gordon Logan. It is a leader at the top end of the LIMS market, generally defined as those using minicomputers, where the LIMS is connected into an ERP system such as SAP R/3, he explained. This market is worth some $180 million/yr. But the lower end of the market, based on PCs, is a similar size; moreover, it's growing faster, at 13 per cent/yr compared with 9 per cent/yr for the high-end market. Nautilus is LabSystem's attempt to gain a foothold in this market.
