Open platform links control and information domains
15 Jan 2000
Honeywell's recently launched Application Processing Platform (APP) is an open Microsoft standard application host for Honeywell's TotalPlant Solution (TPS) system. Its primary function is to merge the open information domain with the protected control domain. By enabling client applications to work with data servers through a common interface, users no longer have to spend time designing interfaces. This reduces implementation and maintenance costs.
The APP can communicate directly with an existing TPS system, or it can be ordered as part of a new system.
The PC side of the APP platform is a Windows NT operating system with OPC (OLE for Process Control) capabilities. Advanced control applications, information management and third-part applications are all carried out in this PC environment.
On the control side of the APP are all the connections needed for networking with other TPS and non-TPS nodes.
Users have the choice of using straight OPC or taking advantage of the Honeywell Communication Interface.
