Thermocouple monitor handles up to 16 channels of information
15 Jan 2000
The SR630 thermocouple monitor, available exclusively in the UK from Thurlby Thandar Instruments (TTi), is a 16-channel unit that can read, scan, print and log temperature or voltages.
The instrument can be used with seven standard thermocouple types to read temperatures from -200 degrees to 1700 degreesC. For remote applications, the SR630 can time-stamp and store up to 2000 readings in non-volatile memory for later analysis.
Temperature readings can either be viewed on the front panel, or read through standard RS232 or GPIB interfaces. Hard-copy output is available in either tabular or strip-chart formats via a standard Centronics printer port.
Measurements can be made up to 12 times per second. Programmable audio alarm limits for each channel alert the user to out-of-range conditions, while a back-panel relay output is available to provide shutdown capability when the limit conditions are exceeded.
Cold-junction compensation is provided by a rear-panel isothermal block, which incorporates 16 screw-terminal inputs. The isolated differential inputs have a 250V breakdown level, allowing the SR630 to tackle difficult applicaions such as the temperature profiling of equipment that is electrically `live'.
Each of the 16 channels can be set independently to display units mV, V or degrees Kelvin, C or F. Similarly, thermocouple type, nominal temperature, temperature limits and alarms can be uniquely set for each channel. There are four analogue outputs with a full-scale range of +/-10Vdc. These can be set directly through the computer interfaces, or they can give a voltage proportional to the readings on channel 1-4.
