The Government may lease and refit redundant coal-fired power stations to burn 400000t of bone meal and tallow from cattle slaughtered to stop the spread of BSE. Agriculture minister Jack Cunningham said that the price quoted by the power companies to dispose of the material was `off the scale'. The Environment Agency believes that incineration at 850 degreesC would successfully destroy the material.
