NKK Corporation and DKK-TOA have jointly developed a dioxin precursor analyser, the GDX-2000, that will provide continuous, precise, long-term monitoring of changes in dioxin concentrations.
Field tests conducted at a number of waste incinerators have confirmed that the unit was able to continuously monitor dioxin precursors at a level of 1 ng-TEQ/Nm3 dioxin emissions.
The idea behind the GDX-2000 comes from the high correlation between dioxin itself and substances like chlorobenzene and chlorophenol that are known as dioxin precursors. The analyser continuously monitors the levels of several of these dioxin precursors, and users can select the precursor with the highest correlation to dioxin generated at their incinerator for continuous volume monitoring, giving them a notional measurement of dioxin generated. Changes in dioxin levels can also be fed back to the waste combustion controls in the incinerator to reduce absolute levels of dioxin.
The unit is capable of measuring chlorobenzenes, which have not previously been measurable with similar units. It is also capable of simultaneous measurement of chlorophenol and other dioxin precursors. Indeed, the unit covers all known dioxin precursors, enabling operators to select the dioxin precursor with the highest correlation to their incinerator.
DKK-TOA has developed a large number of automatic analysers, which also utilise the process gas chromatograph technology that is behind the GDX-2000 dioxin precursor analyser. It also manufactures and sells concentration units for use in the measurement of ultra-low concentration volatile organic substances.
