Purchasing additives
4 Sep 2003
Rhodia has sold its textile and paper additives business based in Sausheim (Alsace), France, to the Finnish group Kemira. The transaction includes the plant at Sausheim, its employees and all of its assets. The business generated sales of 14 million Euros in 2002.
Industrial additives, such as defoamers and textile sizing agents, are mainly used in the textile, paper and polymerisation markets.
Industrial additives production is not a core technology for Rhodia, which has withdrawn from the textile and paper markets and is focusing on the production of performance latex products and aliphatic isocyanates for paints, coatings and adhesives applications.
With the acquisition, Kemira will become a major supplier of process chemicals to the pulp and paper industry in Continental Europe.
The purchase will enable the company to start producing its new water-based, high-temperature defoamers in Europe.
