Cutters are smooth operators
3 Jan 2001
Designed to provide smooth emulsions, creams and dispersions for a variety of industries, Advanced Engineering (Middleton)'s precision cutters are suitable for both single and multi-stage in-line mixers, as well as immersion batch processors. The cutters, which consist of a rotor and stator set, and machined from food-compatible 316 stainless steel.
The cutters can be provided in a range of interchangeable permutations for use in dispersion heads — intermeshed rings of cutters with machined perforations or slots. The process medium is drawn into the dispersion head under high centrifugal acceleration and subjected to multiple shear actions as the spinning rotors force it through the stator slots.
The cutters have a compact design which concentrates their action within a very small volume, maximising their efficiency. The company claims that they are 'virtually self-cleaning' by running water, detergent or a solvent through them between mixing operations.
