Fireproof hosing braves 1100oC
15 Jan 2000
Aflex Hose, on stand 412, has developed a fire resistant capability for its Corroflon and Bioflon hose ranges. A special rubber cover applied to the hose protects it against flame and heat penetration; the rubber includes additives that make it `intumescent’, so that when a flame is applied to the hose, the rubber does not burn.
Combined with the high temperature resistance of the PTFE lining, this has enabled Aflex to make hoses that are fireproof to BS 5173, Section 103.13, 1994. The hoses can resist a 1100oC flame while at maximum pressure, minimum bend radius, and with one end fitting under vibration, for at least 15 minutes.
