Ciba warns of tough trading

Sales at Ciba Specialty Chemicals rose 6 per cent in the first quarter of 1999, to SFr2.1billion. The company does not quote quarterly profit figures. The Allied Colloids businesses, incorporated last April, made a `substantial contribution' to the results. `Prices were lower due to intense competition in all sectors, and not all divisions could compensate through volume gains,' the company says.
