Carbon well spent at Glaxo
15 Jan 2000
Extraction and reactivation of Glaxo Wellcome's effluent treatment spent carbon is helping to minimise waste and eliminate disposal costs. The work has been carried out by CPL Carbons, at its reactivation plant at Flimby, Cumbria. Using temperatures of over 800 C, the plant reactivates carbons using a rotary kiln and steam injection technology. The contaminants are stripped from the carbon and thermally oxidised to water and a CO2 waste stream.
