Chlorine analysis system shows its mussel
15 Jan 2000
At the Heysham II nuclear power station in North Lancashire large volumes of chlorinated water are used for water cooling circuits. The chlorine is added to prevent mussel growth, and fouling.
This chlorine content has to be carefully monitored to meet the strict Environment Agency discharge limits of 0.2mg/l chlorine. Previously relying on manual dosing and sampling, the station approached USF for a replacement system. USF proposed a combination of manual control, residual analysis with Wallace & Tiernan Micro 2000s dosing systems, and a computer trending system.
The Micro 2000 has an integral peristaltic pump that drives the water through the system to over-come the silt problem of Morecambe Bay.
