A winning combination for pharmaceuticals processors
15 Jan 2000
Used by leading pharmaceuticals manufacturers around the world, the combined filter/dryer units manufactured in Liverpool by Powder Systems (PSL) have been designed to offer the high containment features required in an industry where ever more potent compounds are being produced in ever smaller quantities.
The consequences of these changing demands on equipment manufacturers is that they need to reduce operator exposure to the products, while at the same time providing a product recovery system to maximise yield.
PSL's combined filter/dryers - generally made to order as with the latest one chosen for Pfizer's new UK pilot plant - offer both these features. A sample port at the base of the filtration section is contained within an integral glove box, so not only can in-process samples be taken safely, but the residual heel of the filter cake can be recovered after each batch to maximise product recovery. Tests have demonstrated that up to 80 per cent heel recovery is possible.
Filtration areas range from 1 up to 40ft2, with capacities from 12 to 1000gal.
