Hoechst drops `abortion pill'

Hoechst has abandoned production of the `abortion pill' RU-486 (mifepristone). The company feared a boycott of all its drugs in the US if it keeps the drug on its roster. All rights to mifepristone have been `gifted' to one of its developers, Edourard Sakiz, who intends to make and market the drug through a new company called Excelgyn.
