Memtech joins Thames

Thames Water is acquiring Swansea-based membrane system manufacturers Memtech UK.
Combining the new company with Thames Water's PCI Membranes (see Pulp and Paper, p28) creates a major membranes force in Europe.
The acquisition is consistent with Thames Water's strategy of global growth through non-regulated businesses. This complements PCI Membranes' recent expansion programme which includes development of its US industrial base in Cincinnati and entry to US municipal market through sister company F P Leopold.
Memtech UK, established in 1983, has grown rapidly to be the leading membrane supplier to the UK. In addition, and of particular interest to PCI Membranes, Memtech carries out stainless steel fabrication and components manufacture.
PCI membranes manufactures and assembles engineered membrane systems and modules in-house to provide a `one stop shop'.
