AEA specialists help to heal Chinese burns

The Chinese government is turning its eyes to the UK in attempts to reduce emissions resulting from its industrial coal combustion.
In the UK, the Best Practice Programme for industry is run by ETSU, part of AEA Technology, on behalf of the Government.
China has set up its own energy efficiency unit in Beijing with the help of AEA staff. Around 580 million tonnes of carbon are currently emitted by Chinese industry every year and AEA, with the Chinese authorities, are aiming to reduce this by 18 million tonnes.
A team of six AEA energy efficiency experts will help to produce 100 case studies of Chinese industry plus 20 technical reports advising industry on reducing emissions through energy efficiency.
China is the worlds largest producer and consumer of coal. In 1996 1.4 billion tonnes were produced, accounting for 30 per cent of world production.
