Multiphase flow research takes off
15 Jan 2000
Process systems are becoming ever more complex, and monitoring the multiphase mixtures flowing through the pipework has become a major task. The National Engineering Laboratory in East Kilbride has now pitched in, setting up a multiphase flow centre.
Originally started at the behest of the oil industry, which has to pump mixtures of oil and water. the centre contains several `multiphase loops' (shown in the picture above), used to validate and calibrate multiphase meters. The centre also provides consultancy services for firms installing their own measurement facilities.
