Green body says environmental companies cannot allow lax IPPC

UK environmental technology companies are at risk of losing millions of pounds of new business if they fail to lobby Brussels, the Environmental Industries Commission (EIC) warns.
The EIC fears that if UK firms do not make themselves heard in the consultation process, potential business may be lost if new EU environmental standards turn out to be lax.
The European Commission has started drafting pollution control standards covering thousands of industrial sites across Europe to be regulated under the new EU Directive on Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC).
Adrian Wilkes, director of the EIC, said that `the danger is that pollution control standards for Europe will be weakened by lobbying from polluting industries who always argue that high level environmental protection is too expensive or technologically difficult,' and added that `Brussels knows that there are cost effective solutions available.'
The EIC publishes guidlines on IPC, IPPC and LAPC.
