Shell/BASF venture approved

Basell, a jo nt venture between BASF and Shell to produce styrene monomer and propylene oxide, has been approved by the two boards. The companies are set to start building a DM900million plant at Moerdijk in the Netherlands to make 250 000t/a of PO and 550 000t/a of styrene monomer, scheduled to come on-stream in mid-1999.
