Betz-Dearborn aims at metal treatment market
15 Jan 2000
Betz Dearborn, the Pennsylvania-based water and process treatment chemical manufacturer, is to expand the operations of its metals finishing group to the UK and Europe. Production is to be based at the company's existing facilities in Widnes, Cheshire.
The metals process group produces compounds that alter the surface properties of metals or plastics, improving corrosion resistance and paint adhesion. Its products include passivation agents, acid and alkaline cleaners, rinse aids and sealants, and a range of products to maintain the efficiency of paint spraying booths, such as detackifiers and agents to control deposition, foaming, and odour.
The company intends to use the UK as a springboard into the European markets, initially focusing on Belgium, France, and Italy. But this is just the first step in a 'global expansion that will eventually include the entire European market', particularly Eastern Europe. The company expects initial growth rates 'in double digits'.
