Grangemouth drives to attract jobs
15 Jan 2000
A scheme to turn Scotland's largest port into one of Europe's major centres for chemical manufacturing could attract up to 3000 jobs to central Scotland. The ChemEcosse initiative, targeted at Grangemouth, also hopes to attract capital expenditure of some £800 million over the next ten years.
Grangemouth has an established chemicals presence, thanks to the BP refinery and chemicals complex; a deep-water port on the Forth Estuary, high-quality water and skilled personnel, comments ChemEcosse director Jonathan Drew. The initiative hopes to attract companies siting new plants, and joint ventures to exploit the feedstocks produced.
