An open and shut case for valves, or a little bit extra?

Normally a function of a valve is simply to open or close a line to the flow of fluid. With solids handling valves, however, they often also act as feeders or dischargers as well, as several companies will show at Solidex.
A new range of budget rotary valves from Midland Industrial Designers demonstrates this. The MV valve includes maintenance-free mechanical shaft seals, replaceable rotor tips, stainless steel components, a variety of drives, and food grade construction. The standard range is from 150 to 500mm inlet size. (325 on enquiry card)
Valves for filter bag houses used in pulse jet dust collector systems have to operate rapidly and efficiently. Asco Joucomatic has addressed this with its new Power Pulse valves (left). Compared with conventional dust pulse valves, these achieve a 35% increase in flow and a 39% reduction in valve opening/closing times. The improvement stems from a combination of an `obstruction-free' valve body and a special design of piston-diaphragm.
