Akzo's novel cats boost polyolefins
15 Jan 2000
Akzo Nobel has started the construction of a plant to produce trimethylaluminium (TMAL), in Deer Park, Texas, US.
TMALis used as a co-catalyst in the production of polyolefins and as a feedstock for the synthesis of a new family of aluminoxanes. The latter, patented by Akzo, are used in the latest single-site metallocene processes for polyolefin production. Akzo claims that the new aluminoxanes boost catalyst activity.
The plant, which should be completed by spring 1998, has a capacity that will meet the likely requirements of the next 10 years.
