Sira gets set for MCERTS launch
15 Jan 2000
Any company operating a chimney stack will be aware of the Environment Agency's scheme for certifying continuous emissions monitoring equipment, MCERTS, which is due to be launched next month. The certification scheme will help British instrumentation firms compete overseas, says the agency.
MCERTS institutes a 'rigorous assessment scheme' based on international standards. According to the Environment Agency, this 'will ensure that certified instruments provide regulators and businesses with the best possible information about emissions from industrial processes'. The scheme will initially focus on equipment for industrial chimney stacks.
The EA has appointed Sira to run the scheme for its first three years, with the National Physical Laboratory and AEA Technology providing laboratory and field testing services.
