Biotechnology projects scoop £3 million awards
15 Jan 2000
Ten biotechnology projects are to benefit from £3 million-worth of government grants as part of the 'Biotech Challenge', organised by the Department of Trade and Industry.
The challenge is divided into two sections: the biotechnology exploitation platform (BEP), which fosters partnerships between bioscience research groups, and experts in technology transfer and intellectual property rights; and biotechnology monitoring and incubator (BMI), which 'stimulates management skills' within young biotechnology companies.
The winning BEP projects include Enact, which brings together technology transfer consortia from Imperial and King's Colleges; and Bioscience Partnership, involving the Babraham Institute and the Universities of East Anglia and Newcastle. BMI winners include schemes in Cambridge, York, London and Oxford, all of which will also provide lab space.
