As easy as tuning in to drive time
15 Jan 2000
Toshiba's new S7 variable speed motor drive is said to be as simple to set up as tuning a radio. It features an automatic tuning function, plain English menu programming, six keys, and a speed adjustment knob. Once wired up to the motor and power supply, the drive is simply switched and the knob turned to give the desired speed.
Despite this simplicity of operation, the S7 is an advanced drive, using sinusoidal pulse width modulation (PWM) as the control method. It provides sensorless flux vector control with a claimed better than 150 per cent torque from start-up.
The operator keypad gives access to information on frequency, direction of rotation, load current, input and output voltages and I/O terminal status.
The S7 is available in single and three-phase models for motors up to 15kW.
