Poste shunted in SB shake-up

George Poste, head of research and development at SmithKline Beecham, has been appointed to the new position of chief science and technology officer. He will identify new technologies ‘of vital importance’ to the company, take charge of transferring technologies between operating divisions, and help define the company’s public position on such controversial public issues as genome research. He will retain his responsibilities for R&D until a successor has been appointed.
