Aventis job losses rumoured

A working document leaked to French business newspaper Les Echos suggests that Hoechst and Rhone-Poulenc are planning to cut between 9800 and 11,000 jobs as a result of their merger to form Aventis. The cuts - almost half the current workforce - will help the company achieve its targeted E880million savings, according to Les Echos.
