The Norwegian Blue need pine no more. Britain's Laboratory of the Government Chemist, once state-owned but now in the hands of its staff and the Royal Society of Chemistry, has bought a genetic fingerprinting company specialising in sexing parrots and other birds from feather samples. The company, University Diagnostics, is being floated by University College London, and has a turnover of £1million, much of which comes from providing paternity tests from legal disputes, as well as testing whether Polly is really Joey.
