SKB takes over NHS lab

Pharmaceuticals giant SmithKline Beecham is to take over the operation of a pathology laboratory at the West Middlesex Hospital in London, currently run by the National Health Service. The lab's 80 staff will become SKB employees, although much of the actual analysis work will be carried out at newly-built laboratories in Heston. Although SKB already does such work in the US through a network of clinical labs, this is the first time that such an arrangement has been struck in the UK.
