Efficient wet scrubbing system
15 Jan 2000
At the Birmingham works of A E Geotze Automative, secondary aluminium is melted in induction furnaces. These have to meet current emission standards for particulate matter of 50mg/Nm3. Some time ago the company had installed an Impinjet wet scrubbing system to serve three holding furnaces and, such was its efficiency, a similar design was chosen for a new plant from Nairb Air. This handles 74000m3/h of hot gases, removes HCl and HF acids, hydrocarbons and particulates from the furnace gas streams, formed when salts are used for cleaning and degassing the molten aluminium
