15 Jan 2000
The Malaysian state petrochemicals company, Petronas, is to join forces with BP Chemicals to build a 500000t/a acetic acid plant at Kuntan, Malaysia. Costing some $200 million and using BP's new `Cativa' technology, the plant is scheduled to come on-stream by the end of 1999. The output will be sold onto the Malaysian market and exported around Southeast Asia. BP will operate the plant and hold a 70 per cent stake in the venture.
