Construction has started on BP Amoco's first world-scale 1,4-butanediol plant in Lima, Ohio, costing over $100million and with a capacity of 120,000tpa. The plant will use new Geminox technology developed in association with Lurgi. In China, meanwhile, BP Amoco and Sinopec have opened a joint 150,000tpa acetic acid plant in Chongqing, southwest China; the Anglo-American firm holds a 51 per cent share.
