Sterling service
15 Jan 2000
To date, Sterling Tubes has supplied more than 5million metres of steel tube for heater tubes in power station boilers. These installations include 1.1million metres of tube made from Sterling's own steel alloy, Esshete 1250.
The company developed the Esshete 1250 tube with British Steel and UK power generators to brave the industry's harsh requirements. The tube is now a UK Standard and set to become a Euronorm.
Esshete, according to Sterling, has excellent high temperature strength and is resistant to corrosion by the steam and flue-gas atmospheres of coal-fired boilers.
The piping is suitable for applications across Europe where there are many fossil fuel power stations. The company is running tests in a number of German power stations for long term evaluation.
