Ring stage pumps can blow hot and cold

A versatile range of ring-section multistage pumps from Ingersoll-Dresser could find uses in applications as diverse as incineration and snow-making. Designed as a medium/high pressure pump, the WDX system is designed as a bolier feed and condensate return pump for power generation and general industry applications, according to its manufacturer.
At the heart of the compact WDX is a high head-per-stage impeller combined with a precision balance drum. This design, together with efficient hydraulics, is claimed to provide `premium performance with fewer pump stages, resulting in lower installation and operation costs.'
The pump casing is available in six different materials - cast iron, ductile iron, carbon steel, 12 per cent chrome steel, 316 stainless steel and Duplex stainless steel. A variety of flange options, including radial discharge and suction version, is available, each of which can be rotated; there is also a choice of four discharge flange diameters. The number of stages can be varied from 3 to 12, which helps to give the pump its versatility, Ingersoll-Rand says.
